JACKIE GLEASON AND THE KEAN SISTERS AT MATUNUCK 1951

Jane Kean (1923-2013) and her sister Betty (1915-1986) along with Jackie Gleason (1916-1987) played for Wolin and Schiff during their first season at Theatre by-the-Sea in 1951.

That summer is briefly recounted by Jane Kean in her humorous 2003 autobiography, which includes the fact that Gleason was paid only $250 a week.  Gleason had already become a star as host of Cavalcade of Stars on the DuMont television network.  Jane Kean took over the Joyce Randolph role of Trixie  in Gleason's The Honeymooners in the 1970's musical version on television.
